6 Things to try if your windows XP won’t boot
So many people usually getting into these type of problem, where windows xp won’t boot even everything is fine. So what we can do?
The following tips will help to boot your windows XP as usual.
1. Try with Windows startup disk
Windows Startup Disk is the first thing you have to remember when windows xp won’t boot. Through which we can able to boot through floppy disk contains original boot files like ‘boot.ini’.
If you don’t have a windows startup disk, create at least now from a working windows xp PC. Copy the following files into floppy disk,
- Boot.ini
- NTLDR
- Ntdetect.com
After creating windows startup disk, insert that into affected system and press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete] to reboot the computer. if you have enabled the first boot device as Floppy Drive, then your windows will automatically boot through that floppy disk normally.
2. Try “Last Known Good Configuration” feature , through which you can able to boot to your windows XP with last backup of Good Configuration file from windows registry.
Go get this feature, restart your computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Select the Last Known Good Configuration item from the menu and press [Enter].
3. System Restore
System restore is a important tool in windows xp, which creates backup of OS at scheduled intervals (or) creates a restore point at any new program installed time. So if your windows got affected by a program that is recently installed on system. Then a restore point is automatically created at that time.
All you need to restart your computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Now, select the Safe Mode item from the menu and press [Enter].
Once Windows XP boots in Safe mode, click the Start button > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Select System Restore. Because you’re running in Safe mode, the only option on the opening screen of the System Restore wizard is Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time, and it’s selected by default, so just click Next. Then, follow along with the wizard to select a restore point and begin the restoration procedure
4. Recovery Console (from Original Windows XP CD)
Insert your Original Windows XP CD into drive , then restart your PC by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. Once system begins booting into CD, you will see a blue windows setup screen.
When you see the Welcome To Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console. Then it will ask you to choose which operating system you want to log in. An ask you to enter Administrator password if any. Now you will see the main recovery console prompt.
5. Backup
If you have any backup taken recently before crash. You can use that backup to restore the system to normal using the utility you used for the backup.
6. Performing an in-place upgrade.
This might be the last option for recovering windows xp. But it is safe and easy. In this we re-install the OS into the same folder without doing any format by just replacing the old one.
To begin, boot from your Windows XP CD > you will see a windows xp setup screen, then press [enter] to launch the setup > after agreeing to licence by pressing [F8] , setup will search for any previous windows xp installations > when it finds that previous one, it lists below the screen > By pressing ‘R’ your windows xp will repaired and recovered.
